Canva Layer Feature is Game Changer

Discover the Layer Feature in Canva to level up your design

When I was about to cancel my Canva subscription for the tenth time, the developers decided to pull me back for another few months. Okay, Canva, you got me hooked and locked in on this one!

It isn’t every day that I find something cool and exciting in the world of design except the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator. (I’m being sarcastic on this one.) But when I do find a new feature on a design program, I go all in on wanting to learn the tool. Maybe learning it at the top level, but enough to see if it will help with my workflow or speed up a project.

The project I have been working on lately is creating custom Canva Frames and selling them as digital items on marketplaces such as Etsy, Creativefabrica, and Design Bundles.

Here is my shameless plug for the paid newsletter portion: I started a series of post that shares the process of creating custom Canva Frames and the research data on Etsy. You can get exclusive access to this content by following the link below. 😄

Let’s get back to the Game-Changing Canva Layer Feature

Step 1: Select the object or element you want to move around. In this case, I am selecting the text as I will want to move behind the yellow rectangle possibly. (for example purposes)

Step 2: In the top right corner, you will see the “Position” button. Click it, and a slide out from the left side will happen. This is where you will see the default “Arrange” tab and "Layers" next to it.”

Step 3: Click the Layers button.

Now the Magic Happens

Click on the Layers button to see the various separated elements into layers. These elements can be clicked and sorted by dragging them up or down in the layer stack. The example shown here is dragging the purple rectangle above the text.

Pretty Crazy.

Closing Dancing Clowns

As mentioned in this post, keeping my Canva subscription going has been challenging. But more and more, I am finding value in the new features the development team rolls out.

Will I ever make Canva the exclusive design program of choice? Nope… I will always be diehard in using Adobe Illustrator for my vector projects.

PS... Could you do me a Solid and Share this post with a friend?
