Mathmatical Problem Solving Worksheets

Can you solve this math problem?

Math never really came easy to me in school, but I must admit that I wasn’t challenged by any subject offered. It wasn’t until my time selling on marketplaces such as eBay, Amazon, and Etsy that it all came to light how important it was to understand fundamental mathematical problems.

Instead of going down memory lane of schooling that dates back to single-digit calculators (counting with your fingers and toes), let’s jump into the meat of this post. Drum ROLL!!

Contrary to my lack of interest in my former math school subject, creating math printables and worksheets is a LOT of fun!! Breaking the norm of simple equations can be a bit overwhelming.

What if you gave objects a set of numbers and asked for the solved answer?

Here is an example:

Math by objects:)

Can you solve this equation?

Let’s work this out together…..

  • Oranges = 7 + 7 = 14

  • Bananas = 10 + 10 = 20

  • Apple branch with 3 apples = 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 30

What is the final answer with the equation - Orange + Banana x (1) Apple on Branch?

What makes these unique?

I get into the idea of making the brain work regarding these mathematical equations. The disruption of the pattern we are conditioned to see in just numbers and then replaced by objects makes it a bit challenging to solve the problem.

These printable worksheets can be entertaining to do no matter the age of the “problem solver” Can you imagine yourself at a family Christmas party with a booklet of these types of problems? Then, you are in a family debate on the correct answer.

Where to distribute these Printables?

There is a large assortment of printables and math worksheets on the TeachersPayTeachers marketplace. I didn’t find anything like the picture example above. BUT….. here is what I did find in doing some research.

What do you think about math problem printables and worksheets? Would you find math fun and exciting to learn if there were objects assigned numeric values to them?

After doing a few of these types of math printables and worksheets, I must say I enjoy creating them. More so, trying to solve the problems as well. These object-based mathematical equations help me build my confidence once I discover the correct answer to the problem.
